Final Environmental Approval Granted
The Carmichael coal mine is a proposed thermal coal mine in the north of the Galilee Basin in Central Queensland, Australia. The Queensland government has announced it has granted Indian miner Adani the leases it needs to proceed with its multi-billion dollar Carmichael coal mine in the Galilee Basin.
But Adani says it won’t make a final investment decision until it has secured outstanding approvals and legal challenges by “politically-motivated activists” are resolved.
Adani estimating more than 5000 jobs expected to be generated during construction and more than 4000 during operation of the project.
Construction is expected to begin in 2017.
Life of the mine is 90 years with the mine itself stretching 45kms.
