With commodity prices continuing to be volatile, relationships with China, and COVID.19 there is even more pressure on a mine to be highly effective in the management of its assets and security.
Operational costs, government regulations, environmental policies, the time & cost taken to employ skilled workers, asset monitoring and maintenance, must all be addressed in order to forecast the economic sustainability and life of the mine.
To ensure the most profitable outcome is achieved, MiningTelecoms has designed and developed a more automated, intuitive connected mine-site. Our radio solutions and 4G LTE private mobile network design allows for rapid field deployment to remote sites, fast and reliable data communications to mobile assets and infrastructure machinery. Once production is underway companies recognized immediate economic benefits and increased resource safety.
We have the bandwidth to support huge volumes of data from trucks, diggers, machinery, sensors, CCTV, employees (TV, Internet, streaming video), on encrypted data transfer technology.
Mining two-way radios are rugged communication devices designed to operate reliably in harsh mine environments. They are commonly used for safety coordination, operations, vehicle movements and emergency response across open cut and underground sites.
The best mining radio depends on the site environment, required coverage, whether intrinsically safe compliance is needed, and the type of work crews perform. Most mine sites require commercial-grade UHF/VHF radios with strong audio, dust/water protection and optional GPS and emergency features.
Many mining sites — particularly coal, gas and hazardous areas — require intrinsically safe (IS/Ex) radios to reduce ignition risk. Intrinsically safe radios are engineered to meet strict safety standards for explosive atmospheres.
UHF radios are commonly used in mining because they perform well around machinery, infrastructure and terrain obstacles. VHF can offer longer range in open terrain, but UHF is generally preferred for mine sites due to better penetration and clarity in complex environments.
Range depends on terrain, infrastructure, mine depth and whether repeaters are used. On-site radio systems using repeaters can provide mine-wide coverage across pits, workshops, haul roads and remote infrastructure. Handheld-to-handheld range will be shorter than radio-to-repeater coverage.
For mining conditions, IP67 or IP68 protection is strongly recommended. This ensures radios are resistant to dust ingress and water exposure, which is critical for reliability in wet, dirty and high-impact environments.
Yes. MiningTelecoms supplies mining-grade radios and accessories, and provides programming, frequency setup, licensing guidance, and ongoing support for mine sites across Australia.
Yes. MiningTelecoms supplies mining-grade two-way radios and communications accessories Australia-wide. We can activate and program radios prior to delivery, configure channels and emergency features, and recommend the correct antennas and mounting solutions for both handheld and vehicle installations — so your radios are operational on site from day one.
Yes. We can program mine-specific channels and talkgroups, configure encryption (where approved), load site-specific software keys and feature licences, and assist with secure fleet configuration options such as over-the-air programming (OTAP), GPS features and geo-fencing. The radios setup is tailored to your mine site requirements and radio platform to ensure compliance and reliable operation.
